Brimstage Hall

Brimstage Hall is a medieval pele or fortified tower in the tiny hamlet of Brimstage tucked away in the heart of Wirral. testWhy such a tower, more suited to the lawless border regions between England and Scotland, should have been built in peaceful Cheshire remains a mystery.

The building of the hall estimates range from 1175-1350. Mysteries of ghosts and intrigue surround the Hall and Courtyard. Human bones found in the Craft Centre at the bottom of a long forgotten well in 1957 did not find or put any light to the stories and unusual sighting’s around Brimstage!

The building's first known occupants were Sir Hugh Hulse and his wife who were granted the right to construct a chapel in 1398.
Brimstage TowerThere is another puzzle too: could the stone carving of a smirking domestic cat in the old chapel, which is now a craft shop, be the original of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Cheshire Cat’ which had a notorious habit of disappearing, leaving only its smile behind?
